What better way to enjoy a one-of-a-kind hand blown wine glass than with some of Eastern Ontario's finest wines?

We love our local vitners and we think you will too, so here's our guide to Eastern Ontario wine and vineyards.

The Grange

Twenty years after planting the first vines on her family farm in Prince Edward County fields, Caroline and her daughter Maggie make wine by hand from grapes that are 100% estate grown.

For a bold red with rich tannins and a smoky spiced finish, try their Cabernet Franc, or sample their Chardonnay for a mineral-driven wine with bright yellow fruit, spice, and a smooth finish.

Address: 990 Closson Road, Hillier ON

Green Gables Vines

Green Gables Vines is your opportunity to embrace the nostalgia of childhood while sipping some of Ontario's finest cold climate wines. You can even rent a small part of their land and try your hand at running your own vineyard.

Try their Blushing Daisy for an off dry Rosé made from their own Sabrevois grapes, or for a taste of summer sample their Strawberry Swirl, which combines this tasty Rosé with white grapes and real strawberries.

Address: 1600 Porter Road, Oxford Station ON

Jabulani Vineyard and Winery

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from our studio in Merrickville is the village of Richmond and Jabulani Vineyard and Winery.

Try their Blanco Seco for something dry and crisp with notes of tropical fruit and zingy citrus.

Looking for something really special? Try their Iced Cider — an apple dessert wine that tastes of crisp apples and cinnamon.

Address: 8005 Jock Trail, Richmond ON

KIN Vineyards

If you're looking for a taste, quite literally, of the Ottawa Valley, KIN is your go-to spot, with the estate nestled along the Carp Ridge and Carp River. It even boasts Ontario's most northernly grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

Their KIN Chardonnay provides apple and pear notes with toasted almonds and fresh bread and their Tastes of the Ridge is a pinot noir with complex flavours of red currant, earth, cinnamon, and star anise.

Address: 2225 Craig's Side Road, Carp ON

Potter Settlement Artisan Winery

Just north of Tweed, Ontario, at the edge of the Canadian Shield, you'll find this small winery that embraces the old-world charm of the area (Hastings County is the mineral and cheese capital of Canada) while also striving for the future (solar and geothermal energy are used onsite to lessen their carbon footprint).

They have a number of white, red, and fruit wines, with flavours taking you around the world thanks to yeast imported from France, Germany, Australia, and the United States.

Address: 1445 Potter Settlement Road, Tweed ON

Stonehouse Vineyard

Glengarry County is known for its Scottish roots, and Stonehouse Vineyard is nothing short of a celebration of that history. The MacMillan family originally settled it in 1793, with the iconic stone house being built in the early 1800s and the farm taking shape shortly thereafter. Although the land was sold in 1921, the  family repurchased it in 2008 and have been developing this five-acre vineyard ever since.

Their 1793 Fortified boasts aromas and notes of dark fruit, nuts, spice, and oak, and their 1812 Fortified is a sweet fortified Frontenac Gris, with notes of butterscotch, apricot, and peach.

Address: 21065 Lochiel Road, Lochiel ON

TerraCello Winery

TerraCello Winery is a taste of Italy in Ontario! Anthony, the owner, decided to start the winery in 2006 after a visit to his family's homeland in Anzano Di Puglia, Italy. After five years of hard work, Tony and his wife, Daniela, opened TerraCello as the youngest self-funded winery owners in Ontario's history.

Their Vecchia Vollpaia is an appassimento style red wine that relies on a partial drying of the grapes to produce a more colourful, flavourful, and aromatic wine, or try their Riesling for zesty, lively white wine with some citrus and minerality. Don't forget to get one of their wood-fired pizzas too to go along with your vino!

Address: 2436 Prince Edward County Road 1, Bloomfield ON

Les Vergers Villeneuve and Blueberry Farm

If fruit wine is your thing, Les Vergers is for you! This fourth-generation 40-acre family farm near the village of Saint-Pascal-Baylon has been in operation since 1857. They began producing fruit in 1998 and started their winery in 2016. Berry and apple picking, wagon rides, and other activities provide fun for the whole family.

A blend of 15 farm-grown apples create their driest wine, the Apple Wine. If you're a lover of dessert wines, taste their Strawberry, Mapleberry (yes, it includes real maple syrup!), or variety of iced fruit wines.

Address: 1341 Road, Saint-Pascal-Baylon ON
